Sweet.

I love that original video.  Piggybacking DI crap on that beautiful animation is contemptible.

While we would all like Harvard to crush DI, I believe they are sending them a 'cease and desist' letter.  While this is not 'crushing', it means that the rest of us should keep our eyes out for this animation at any future presentation.  If they use it, email me or someone at PT, and we will get it to the proper authorities.

Friday is just a few days away... look for Dembski to post the names, addresses and phone numbers of Harvard's board of regents at UD.

I mean... we don't expect him to deal with this graciously, do we?

IIRC correctly UD blogged about this some time ago, it "proved" ID no doubt.

At my blog paralepsis (link below) I transcribed Dembski's introduction to the video, with a few additional points:

1. Clearly, he wants people to think either he or Behe had made the thing, just like he wants people to think Behe discovered the flagellum.

2. This from the guy who says Judge Jones plagiarized the Dover decision.

Looks like UD used to host it at this page.

Update: A comment there notes that it did say "Harvard University" on the animation.

Seems the DIs understanding of Law is as bad as their understanding of science. I guess that's why they've been beaten both in a court room and in the laboratory :)

Are you being silly, or are you serious. or are you confused with Luskin?  We thought it was Luskin at first, but I found a podcast with him, and it wasnt.

Have you heard the DIs narration?  Do you think it might be Dave??

I listened to it, and could not place the narrator's voice. That doesn't mean it isn't one of the big-time IDC advocates, but I wouldn't bet that way.

Update: Springer is not what I'd consider a big-time IDC advocate, and I haven't heard his voice.

ERV - I have never heard DaveScot speak.

But if he did, he would have a high-pitched squeeky voice.

Luskin is on tape all over - and he sounds just like a little lier.

Whenever I've heard Dave speak it was was through the loudspeaker in the ceiling so it was hard to make out.

Loud, overbearing and empty is all I recall.

It's Dembski. Or I'll eat my dat. (Or is it "cog"?) I know that voice - I know those mannerisms, those inflections (yes, that's weird, I know), but I'm pretty sure it's him.

One thing they don't have in common, though, I doubt if Medved's a Holocaust Denier like Larry :)

Wes, are we closer to your promised Friday Meltdown? There seem to be plenty of little signs in the air.

No, sorry :(  But I will say that XVIVO pres is pissed, and SWBaptist is doing their own investigation.

Hence the notpology.

Whatever one thinks of ID, Dembski's dismal judgment and lack of impulse control is astonishing for someone of his age and position.

Maybe before he did it he asked a few close advisors if they thought it was okay.

DaveScot:  Hell Yeah Bill, Semper Fi.  Them dumb rubes in OK ain't gonna know nuthin nohow.

Denyse:  Deeply intrepid, Bill, in Canada, we are it's not logical, but the mind will always know.  Buy my book.

BA77:  Yada, Yada, Yada, Christ, Yada, Yada, 1,500 more Christ's and Yada, - Not, to be clear or anything, but it is okay Dr. Demsbksi, Yours In Christ.

So, clearly, that's why Dr. Dr.'s Notpology, it's just not his fault.

So, would I be correct in assuming that somebody actually is trying to figure out who added the voice-over to the video?  The version that Dembski claimed he found on the "internet" hasn't actually been found by anybody else, has it?

I think in Dembski's happy little perfect world, he would be Pope, and then people would stop laughing at him, and being mean to him, and he could pontificate and make everybody do stuff they didn't want to do.

So, Lying For Jesus is just a means to an end for him.

My $.02 analysis.

'We' have been looking for it for two months straight.

No one on the planet has mentioned the manipulated animation, on the internet, except for summaries of talks given my DI fellows.  Yes, I mean 'fellows' and not 'Dembski.'

Its all a coincidence, Im sure.

If the infamous Judge Jones animation is any indication, Dembski prefers taking his own voice and then distorting it a bit when making media presentations.

Anyone have digital forensics tools (or even normal professional audio tools) handy? XVIVO should have something along those lines. I don't have anything like that, but if I did I'd first go about trying to figure out how the voice was distorted, if at all. I'd also check for common techniques (the kind you can do in garageband, etc) first. Alternatively, maybe Dembski just spoke in a very low voice- if you can't tell by ear, a more professional look at the waveform (or whatever else) might show it.

Distortion or Dembski (or someone else) intentionally speaking in a low voice to disguise himself would explain why the narrator sounds so utterly, unforgivably gay. I'm not even going to speculate about how to un-distort it, because I wouldn't know. My knowledge of audio technology is pretty superficial.

Listening to it again (at great pain) the cadence of the speech does sound very Dembski to me, but that could be confirmation bias. Anyone up to chasing the thing properly?

Addendum: Further listening has convinced me that a simple pitch adjust would make the video's voice into Dembski's normal speaking voice. Someone do that.

Per ERV, if it were Dembski, there have to be a lot of erms, and uhs, and more erms....

I have tried to protect by virgin ears and not listen, but you, my friend, have already suffered for your science... so what's the erm count per sentence?

I went back and counted: nine "uh" noises in three minutes of video narration- not counting Dembski's introduction. I could have missed one or four, the narrator did some mumbling that may or may not have contained "uh"-ing. If anyone wants a more precise count, they can get it their own damn self.

Pure Dembski. Even with recording equipment, he doesn't retake it until he stops saying "uh". The difference from his normal voice could even be due to the microphone, or speaking softly, or the recording, or ... you get the idea. If that's the case, a simple pitch-raise might not quite fix it to how he normally sounds, but it really seems like him.

It could be a very gay guy who just happens to "uh" just like Dembski, and who I erroneously perceive the same halting word frequency and speaking speed from.

I would be surprised if any sort of place which would hire Dembski considered fraud and dishonesty to be actionable offenses. In fact, if Dembski is holding a position, I just assume the word 'dishonest' is in the position's job description, not too far from 'immature' and 'temper tantrum'.

However, if the idle speculations above are true, and it came out that Dembski was gay, he'd be canned faster than you can say "wide stance".

As an addendum, let me say that none of the gay people I have known and worked with would I smear by associating them with Bill Dembski.

Dudes, you've all lost your minds on this narration. It doesn't "sound" particularly anything other than amateurish. Nor is it clear to me why "sounding gay" is somehow a pejorative, or is the occasion for all this titillation. Nor (IMHO) does the narrator sound particularly like Dembski, and weaving speculation to that effect out of thin air when he has flatly stated that it wasn't he who narrated the animation strikes me as more than a little out to lunch.

Gay-sounding is not necessarily pejorative, but it's a pretty hilarious and often obnoxious (hilariously so) stereotype. Most gay stereotypes are, they're ... gay stereotypes.

I basically agree with the rest, except that I'm not sure stupidity suffices and my ear just disagrees with yours about if it sounds like Dembski. Confirmation bias, maybe, it's true.

I remain an unconvinced heathen. Does anyone have the modified version of the video, instead of the video of the video that's on ERV's blog? I think UD had it up, previously, even though it's down now. I want to look at it.

I'm really quite surprised at how easily available good audio software seems to be compared to the last time I looked two years ago or so.  :D

... and I'll give it a rest if that doesn't work. I have limits to the distance I'll chase a weird theory.

In each case, there's no natural explanation.

Of course there isn't.  The internet didn't evolve, it was designed by designers.  So nothing on there is natural.

Now that the original video has been found (see here, via ERV), and the narration is clearly audible, I find it a little disappointing, given the brouhaha that it has stirred up.  It sounds like a bland, basically factual, amateurish narrative.  Can anyone point out to me what is specifically creationist about the narrative or editing?

Not a biologist - maybe I missed it.
