35 years old! Has mom resigned herself to the fact that you'll probably be in her basement forever?

Not that there's anything...

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, RTH!

I hope you get a new tard cap, lots of cake, and maybe some fireworks to tide you over until Guy Fawkes Day.

No, no, Rich's tard cap is my first clear memory of AtBC. Even now, banded by dirt and sweat, it rides over the horizon beckoning others to AtBC. They, like new Americans passing under the noble gaze of Miss Liberty, are heartened by jaunty tilt of it's bill. In my last moments, as the detritus of my life is thrown into the burning maw of the massive fireplace, I'll mutter "tard cap." And they'll wonder.

Happy birthday you greasy hat.

(Yeh! If I could do that, I'd use it on my gnarled old self! )

Dear Mr. Hughes:

We understand that it is your 35th birthday today.  Happy birthday to you.  And many more.  :)

For this auspicious event, I have provided you with one of the greatest gifts ever in the history of the human race.  If you want to, you can take this idea and turn it into a viable invention and make mega-bucks!!!!  Here's how:

Take a standard, but top-of-the-line, irony detector.  Remove the cover to reveal the "guts".  Then, reverse the two wires coming from the battery compartment.  After that, turn the attenuator resistor down.  Put everything back together, and what do you have?      :)      :)     :)     :)

One handy-dandy TARD DETECTOR!!!!

p.s. please let me know how it goes, eh!  and have lots of fun today!

Thank you all for the Birfday wishes. I'm going to have a big emotional blurt:

The interwebs sure has changed things. I now have friends that I haven't physically met. It's nice, because you can see the essence of people, without getting hung up on age.. appearance, etc. You'd think that soon, when everyone can speak to everyone else, we might actually give up disliking folks based on say-so.

It's a privilege to chat with the minds that are here. Some folks are talented scientists, some folks are a lot of fun and some folks are both. Then there's me. I just post a lot of nonsense, but folks put up with it anyways. Thanks.

We often look at UD and highlight we do science and they don't. But the differences go way beyond that. Here, anyone can start a thread, there is no 'pre-moderation", we celebrate Burfdays, LOLCATS, music, films... it's a community in the real sense of the word.

Thanks for having me.

PS - You all owe me a finders fee if I enticed Bill to AtBC.

Whew!  Sorry I am late, but I just got back from a trip out of town, only to come back and see that all hell has broken loose, and everyone is celebrating The Birthday of Richard T Hughes with fireworks and parades.

I did meet up with some friends that wanted to come help you celebrate, but I told them that you were waay too interested in teh Battle With The ID Bad Guys to waste time driving around the rest of the summer putting lotion on teh Swedish Bikini Team.

Is that ok?

Well, Happy Birthday anyway.

ps - They insisted that I send you their picture.

I, too, am sad to see Rich go.  It was his thread addressed to the lurkers that convinced me to stop lurking and say hello.  Rich was usually the quickest to welcome newcomers and in many way was the unofficial AtBC ambassador, and it just won't be the same here without him.

Louis - That is the most cutest, cuddlyest, LOL cat EVAH!

We know that Rich is not manly enough for Rugby, but he does follow something that we call in the states "soccer",
and I think your LOL cat is perfect for Rich to take out his frustrations on.

I think we should start a pool as to how far Rich can launch your Cute LOL Cat, using a penalty kick format.

Please put me down for 50 yards.  (That's 1/10 furlong in UK measurements, I think.  Okay, I'm guessing, cuz I is too lazy to Google funny UK measurements).

Kix Away!!!

Damn it RTH, you were one of the posters who kept up my interest here, and it is very upsetting to see you gone.  While Louis, Carlson, and Arden can be amusing, they have lost a lot of their color without your constant ripostes.

I don't say much on this site, since I am not as well versed as others here, but half of my reason for coming here (aside from well written counters to the anti-evo crap was for the constant banter around the stupid things going on at Uncommonly Dense.  Science is fun, but it does needs some spice, and the banter here was that spice.

I have waited patiently for you and whichever moderator you were fussing with to return to your respective versions of sanity, but sadly that appears to have failed to have happened.

I spotted Lenny at daily Kos last week, in an article by Darksyde about the New Dover Trap.

I'm thinking we have to hang out at the This Is Spinal Tap Forum to catch sight of Richard.

Or maybe he's helping out with the USA Tour of the Swedish Bikini Team.

Actually, Richard has left a few comments at my blog. I mentioned to him how much Carlsonjok and Arden missed him and he said that was because they were his "MIGNONS" which I think means something naughty.

I do miss him. Here was a group photo we took before he had a hissy fit and left.

Please Carlson. Language like that could be construed as seriously scatological. It's only a very short distance from cho^colate to br^own and only a slightly longer distance from b^ombs to sme^lly (via sti^nk bo^mbs).

Also, any discussion of this could be viewed as straying onto FO^RBID^DEN TO^PICS. Caution is advised.
