Being top of the food chain has its downside. There are some that *should* be claimed by predators. Let us celebrate them and their commitment to tard.

I’m looking for categories, nominations and prizes.

Janie Bell and Corporal Kate will host a star studded award Gala.

First of all you should do categories in a way that does not allow someone like Dimbski to compete with ordinary tards like the church lady or tard joel.  Perhaps start with a two tier approach:

1) Professional tards (Dimbski, Behe, Wells, Fuller, etc)
2) Lay tards (Denyse, dave tard, joel tard, and other ordinary tardettes from UD)

A few categories to consider

1) Most dubious grasp of biology
2) Most dubious grasp of reality
3) Best use of truthiness
4) Best use of double speak
5) Biggest hypocrite
6) Dumbest ID related theory
7) Dumbest use of the term "Darwinism"
8) Best quote mine
9) Dumbest analogy supporting ID
10) Dumbest portrayal of ToE

Those are just a few to consider...

Okay, how about this one Steve Story just posted in the UD thread?

Mentok: The wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_expansion_of_space may be of use to you. It’s a little hard to understand (noooo kidding), but it may be a good place to begin to understand the mathematical concepts that lie behind the notion of an expanding universe. One thing that is important to note is that the universe is not expanding out from a single central point–all distances are changing, and the universe has no center. It also has no edge.

The theory of expanding space is based on the theory that the matter in the universe is expanding outward. That theory is based on misinterpretation of redshift and other misinterpretations. They cannot explain how space itself is expanding. This is because space is not a quantifiable substance. They cannot and do not try to prove that space is a quantifiable substance which can move. They conflate matter and space. If space is pure vacuum how can it expand? Expansion means going from a dense state to a less dense state. A pure vacuum has no density and therefore cannot expand. There is nothing to expand. Besides that where wopuld space expand into if it could expand? It would be expanding into something. A ballon expands because there is space around the ballon for it to expand into. If space didn’t exist outside of the ballon then what does? The theory makes no sense but it is promoted because it is part of big bang cosmology which is the establishment position. Countless careers, and reputations and grants are at stake if big bang cosmology were to fall.

Now, obviously Mentok is firmly in the 'Lay Tard' category here, but which particular subcategory does this represent? 'Most Dubious Grasp of Cosmology'?

Also extra points for conspiracy theorizing. Always a bonus. If he'd mentioned Jesus or liberals somewhere he'd be a shoo-in.

I'd say Mentok's post might qualify for, and in fact embody, another category:

Most incorrect statements about a well-established theory in a single paragraph.

"Wow, guys... just wow. I don't know where to start... Thanks, Mom, and Dad, for, k'know, just making sure that my education was rotten. Thanks to all the jaded teachers at the bible school. A big thanks to pastor Dembski for making sure I never had to really think about anything.

We weren't sure, y'know. We really tried to pack in the incorrect, misguided and just plain stupid stuff in the post... but, you just never know... sometimes, you just take a big breath, trust in God, and just, y'know, let it go out there into the educated, intelligent world, and... just let people make their choices. I guess, in this case, the folks at AtBC saw what we did, and this... *holds up trophy* and they could just see the blood, sweat and tard that went into it... *seems to sob for a moment* I will never forget this day... thanks to the crowd at UD, you guys are the best... Thank you, God!"

CJ, I like the redefinition of "tard" used in a similar sense to blood and sweat.

It really works here, as a measure of intense but idiotic effort.

"They put their blood, sweat, and tard into it."

yup.

I've got mixed feelings about this thread. I've mentioned the internal conflict before. On the one hand, it's impolitic to do a bunch of name-calling; on the otherhand, what else can you call some of these people. Me, I try to leaven my name-calling with some substance. For instance, I'll call Denyse O'Leary a tard, but only after searching through her posts, finding some example of egregious confusion, searching through webpages to find a completely contradictory post by Dembski or Salvador or Nelson, and posting it here. I try to excuse my name-calling by adding some value to the site at the same time.

I'm not being critical of anybody here, I recognize that I'm not able to create a bright line distinction between good tard and bad tard. And anyway, it's not like we're on Panda's Thumb. We're more like the bar in Star Wars. And sometimes we shoot first. We're rogues, but we're lovable rogues. Even handsome in a rugged kind of way. But I think maybe we should leaven this with a couple of categories critical of ourselves or something.

Maybe

11) Worst defender of evolution.

or

12) Best defender of ID.

How about also:

13) Most hilariously inept defense of ID

I see the laff index as being the crucial factor for this one.

I nominate myself for the
**"Most confounding without ever having to supply a shred of evidence" award.

Very different from the
**"Most delusional about thinking they have presented evidence when, in fact, they have presented no evidence whatsoever" award.

And I think effort is is important. It's partly how hard you try.

As evidence to support voting for me I offer this:

Ah, why not?  For the worst defender of evolution, I suppose it has to be Gary Hurd, for his bizarre outbursts at other PT contributors.  Although the new PvM is tempting.

The best ID defender?  Definitely Jesus.

I'm not really hard on myself. I just think since I spend all my time making fun of Uncommonly Dense, I should be able to laugh at myself.

And as far as being moderator, I knew what I was getting into. I just wanted to help in cleaning up some annoying problems. Think of it like, Wesley is the tireless building supervisor, you guys are the tenents, and I'm the part-time janitor.

I see Jerry's in the zone:

Quote
I find it comical that someone should use the expresion “argument from personal incredulity” in reference to ID. What is the alternative but a belief in magic. I have often said that Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice is the model spokesperson for Darwinism. ID offers a rational approach to the history of life while other theories emplore these magical occurences and not just once but thousands of times without ever demonstrating that one of these magical occurences ever happened.

It the Darwinists with their weak minds that accept this mythology the most. You would think that after years of trying for whichh they have not shown how this magic happened even once, they would be humble. So even with the magic we often see on a stage there is an intelligence behind it just so as much of the life we see around us.

I am sorry but till you get rid of your hocus pocus and demonstrate another mechanism, I will stick with the most obvious explanation, intelligence input.

How about an award for most thoroughly accusing our theory with having the fatal flaws in their "hypothesis"?  I know this could come under "projection", but there is something about calling evolution a "fairy tale" or a "religion", or saying that we just believe that "evolution did it" that seems (to me) to call for a separate category.

UD has vast tracts of stupid posts trying to claim that evolution is what "takes faith", or that believes in "miracles".  Again, yes, it's projection, but it's projection of a particular kind, one that depends upon their misconceptions of the world in order to misunderstand a good model of the world, evolution.  And what is really weird is that they (most of them--probably all in unguarded moments) explicitly state that they believe in miracles and in the Biblical fairy tales (well, a few might genuinely not believe the Bible fairy tales, but most at UD do).

So we need an award category that recognizes how they misconstrue evolution to be a religion, and how they fault it for being like their own religion(s).  After all, the real problem for them has always been that evolution competes with their myths, and unfortunately for them, it does not require faith (though they strenuously assert that it does).

I do like how they fault their own mode of "reasoning" whenever it is projected onto us.
