DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, a Southern Baptist preacher who has surged in Iowa with evangelical Christian support, bristled Tuesday when asked if creationism should be taught in public schools.

Huckabee — who raised his hand at a debate last May when asked which candidates disbelieved the theory of evolution — asked this time why there is such a fascination with his beliefs.

"I believe God created the heavens and the Earth," he said at a news conference with Iowa pastors who murmured, "Amen."

"I wasn't there when he did it, so how he did it, I don't know," Huckabee said.

But he expressed frustration that he is asked about it so often, arguing with the questioner that it ultimately doesn't matter what his personal views are.. . .

. . .Huckabee, at a dinner in Des Moines, told reporters that the theory of intelligent design, whose proponents believe an intelligent cause is the best way to explain some complex and orderly features of the universe, should be taught in schools as one of many viewpoints. "I don't think schools ought to indoctrinate kids to believe one thing or another," he said.

I was wondering how long it would take for this to show up here, lol.

I don't think Huckabee realizes that he just became the poster child for both ID and anti-ID at the same time.

On PT I read a comment that GG's attorneys (pro bono)are also working for Huckabee's campaign.  YOU connect the dots.

Sorry, this is not going to work.  There is NO way that Huckabee is gonna be able to connect those dots.

MAYBE this would work for him

Huckabee being an IDIot may be the least of our worries.

Read this scary shit

Huckabee and other Christians worked hard to free a convicted rapist.  Huckabee pressured the prison board to get him released from prison.  The dude not only raped but murdered a woman shortly thereafter.

Huckabee's love affair with creationism isn't what scares me...

That explains a lot. When I first saw the article I was wondering whether his advisors have been slapping him around the head for those comments. While people like Ftk might cheer he will instantly lose all the people in the middle who have heard of Dover. These are the people that the Republicans are going to have to win over in the election.

You can be sure that his rivals will start to point out the losses in every state that has tried to teach a variant of ID in the schools

LOL. In my 5500 posts here, over 3 years, I'd say, in all honesty, maybe there were 20 which contributed some real wit or cleverness. I like to think the fake AFDave data one you mention was one of them.

That post was one of the first things I ever saw here.

"President Huckabee." Just say it out loud, people. While keeping your face straight. If it happens, four years of not needing to employ comedy writers in Hollywood, I swear.

Another reason he's dangerous.

he's dangerous because he's endangers the jobs of comedy writers in Hollywood?  Boy what's that say about the quality of comedy writers? lol

Really, you guys might be jumping at ghosts.  Huckabee's not dangerous in the least bit.  He's a lot of things but dangerous isn't one of them.  You guys might want to focus your energy elsewhere because there's only one scenario in which he becomes President and it's looking more and more like a long shot.

So I'm cruising around in between barfing rounds, and I wind up looking at an image of the Spanish Inquisition.

Is it just me, or does the Inquisitor on the left look an awful lot like Huckabee?

Huckabee has no buisness being in charge of the television remote, let alone something important.

The fact that so many people take that whack job Theocrat even remotely seriously speaks volumes about the massive amount of damage fundies have done and continue to do to this Republic.

While that isn't funny in the least, ridicule and marginalization of Mental Mike and his ilk is one useful tool in the effort to get them as far from the seat of power as humanly possible.

good article in the NYT magazine about Huckabee. The short version: despite his genial appearance he's basically Jerry Falwell.

Interesting article about Huckabee's son in the paper today.  Normally I ignore the antics of a candidate's offspring but this is too weird.

Seems young Huckabee was a counselor at a boy scout camp and got fired when he was caught torturing and hanging (to death) a stray dog.  The article said Huckabee Sr used his influence to keep the event quiet, jr was not charged with any crime.

It's one thing to be a youngster and smoke pot, drive too fast, make farty videos, etc.  But torturing and hanging a dog?  We're not talking about dog fighting, which is sick in it's own right, we're talking about torturing a dog for fun.

Weird.

EDIT - because I can and FTK can't.

Here is the Newsweeek article

And here is the perp and possible 1st son....

Edit yet again (I am having way too much fun)

Here are a few Miek Huckabee quotes you might enjoy:

Quote
Abortion, environmentalism, AIDS, pornography, drug abuse, and homosexual activism have fragmented and polarized our communities.

AIDS and environmentalism have fragmented and polarized our communities?  Well that's it, I've had it.  I'll support anyone who will outlaw AIDS and environmentalism.

Here is another gem:

Quote
It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations — from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia.

I don't know about you, gentle reader, but I have never condoned "institutionally supported" necrophilia.  Never!  We should join Huckabee and help put an end to institutionally supported necrophilia!
