Ooooh yes. Might have split Australia off Gondwanaland. Serious stuff. AND right at the Permian extinction event, too.

Discovered using satellite imaging, I notice, so Paley's Zombie will claim it's a fake...

And the DI will say they've discovered the location of Gomorrah.

lol. yeah.

hmm, i guess we should start looking for a pillar of salt somewhere thereabouts?

gimme some time on dat der satelmajiger!

*ahem*

yeah, this impact is beyond comprehension.  It basically is like hitting an eggshell with a ball-peen hammer.  Well... maybe not quite that bad.  more like shooting an egg with a pellet gun.

still, yikes.

Heard about the Deccan Traps? Have to be impressed by a situation where a meteor possibly triggered a monster volcano and possibly also sped up continental spreading:

(But of course, the Earth is only 5,000 years old and plate tectonics is a secular lie, so none of this is true. :-))

This would be a good opportunity to recommend a book I read last year: When Life Nearly Died
It covers a lot of stuff of interest to folks here, and spends some pages discussing the idea that the Permian extinction was caused by just such an impact.

This new discovery is interesting. Now I wonder how it will fit in the model of a massive globlal warming caused by an increase of atmospheric CO2 and methane released from the ocean, which is the hypothesis for the permian exctinction (at least, in the documentary I watched).
AFAIK, the meteor impact that killed dinosaurs have generated some sort of glaciation.

EDIT: Apparently, the global warming was just a hypothesis among others.

Is afdave is starting to get to you?

It does make you wonder just how does afdave deal with all the science out there that necessarily incorporates an ancient earth in its assumptions -- plate tectonics, global warming and artic ice cores, these meteor craters, ... does his brain just filter all that stuff out?

lalalalalalalalalalalaa...

what?  did you say something?

repeat ad nauseum.

seriously tho, you actually hit the nail right on the head.  that is very close to what his brain actually does.  Filters out anything that would icrease his level of cognitive dissonance (a form of denial as a defense mechanism), or else projects his own delusions onto it as it gets processed.

Davey is one sick dude.
