you know, the same PEH that was voted "crankiest" evolutionary theory EVER over on crank.net.

Just for accuracy's sake, "Crankiest" is just a category on Crank.net. It means JADs site is among the crankiest of antievolution sites.

accepted.  However, that does not answer the question of whether he accepts miracles to be within the purview of science itself, as Carol genuinely appears to.

I think the answer to that would be "no". He says that miracles are just that - miracles, and thus are outside the realm of scientific understanding.

But how you separate what is and isn't a miracle is left unanswered.

In the "Clergy Project Nearing Goal of 10,000 Signatures" thread on PT, Heddle sez:

Miracles (there are about ~100 of them in the bible) are by definition excluded. If miracles could be explained by science, they wouldn’t be miracles. That is why even Renier, above, did not bring up Jesus walking on water or feeding the 5000. Most people understand that, even if they don’t believe the miracles, they have to be exempt from this argument. If you take out the miracles—it would be maybe 15 or so pages in the typical bible, there is still plenty of text left to hunt for scientific error. (Oh, and when it talks about the sun rising and setting, that doesn’t mean it is claiming the sun rotates around the earth.)

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The Pro (IIRC) was pro-evolution, and has been around for some time. Larry was a real person who has posted nonsense on other boards and has a real history of kookiness. So unless the Pro was in reality, a kook named Larry Faraman who decided to post rationally for a year or so before unveiling his true kookiness, I don't see them being the same person. Maybe it was a dynamic IP problem.

And doesn't the IP listed on the Thumb have too many parts? Is that last a port or something?

I've been on the patch (off and on) for about three years. I fall off the wagon occasionally and start over. And yeah, I know you aren't supposed to use the things long-term, but it's gotta be better than lighting up.

Final Exam Question to receive your degree:

"Based on your studies, who or what is the Designer?"

You fail if you give any answer.

That, due to it being a heavily capitalist nation, people in the USA cling ever more tightly to helpful bedrocks such as church and community, to help buffer themselves against the winds of economic change.  Whereas in much of Europe, the gvt on behalf of the electorate has taken over a fair bit of this role and thus churches just arent as necessary.

I don't think that argument holds up. But I do think it raises a similar point in that some of our religion is tied up with our capitalistic outlook. The whole "Protestant Work Ethic" mentality was born out of the early colonists who believed that doing well in business was a sign of God's blessing. In a sense, the richer you were (which implied that you worked hard and were honest), the holier you were.

So, you suppose we'll actually get to see Dave delete the thread where he claims to never delete threads?

That would be way cool. But the universe might explode.

At this point, it doesn't sound like UD is far from merging with Free Republic. Boy, what an amazing combination of whackos that would supply.

Re Dave's agnosticism:

IIRC (My favorite phrase), Dave  once said on a thread that if there was a god it was the Christian god, but he remains on the fence about his existence. I can't remember where or when this was, but it stuck in my head. As John Stewart would say, "Whaaaaa?"

That's actually the real reason Darwin took that voyage on the Beagle: he wanted to go all over the world, burning churches.

He also stopped by Africa to collect Ebola. He intended to go back to England and kill Christians with it, but he got too involved with teaching communism to school children and destroying the English family. I heard he was also friends with Madelyn Murray O'Hare.

Oh yes, and he was also a Muslim.

But he recanted on his deathbed! Some lady who never met him said so! Oh, and Carl Sagan too!

There's some sort of ID vs. evolution debate scheduled for NC State next week (I think - I just briefly saw a flyer). Does anyone (Steve S?) know about it?

I think it said it would be in Caldwell, but its been so long I can't remember if they have big lecture rooms.

I found more info on it. The sponsor is the Wake ACLU.

Here's the flyer if anyone's interested in attending.

Holy...cow...I leave this place for three measly months and decided to stop back by and see if the threads hit 100 pages yet, and its over 130! Wow. I don't know what to say. How can UD keep up this amazing record of stupidity?! And how can y'all stand to immerse yourself in it daily?!
