What happens to a society when its children are taught they evolved from the slime of some prebiotic soup through random chemical reactions in a chaotic, completely unsupervised universe that emerged from a chance explosion?

After decades of indoctrination into Darwin's theory of evolution, this question is no longer an academic one. The fruits of this experiment are evident everywhere we look, from staggering increases in the homicide and suicide rates among young people to a total disdain for human life.

Evolution is not only junk science, it is a pernicious social doctrine which produces a bitter harvest in the hearts and minds of its adherents. When children are taught this theory as fact (as most are today), it affects their entire belief system and outlook on life. The implications are devastating for individuals as well as for society at large.

The first implication of accepting evolution as fact is hopelessness.

Yes. Life was so much better in the dark ages, before anyone knew any of this Darwinist crap. Everyone lived in peace and disease-free harmony, sharing equally in the fruit of their labors in a veritable heaven on earth.

Give me a fucking break.

If you'll excuse me from getting all political, all the actual academic studies and evidence that I have ever read about shows that increasing suicide rates are tied in with increasing isolation in society and a breakdown in social ties.

you might find this interesting:

Then as for a total disdain for human life, my understanding is that it is quite common amongst religious fanatics, power hungry people, etc etc.  The ready acceptance of extreme violence on TV etc in the USA might have something to do with it as well.

The thing is guthrie, Tom Flannery is just spouting a whole lot of BS and he won't be able to back up ANY of his claims. Sounds a lot like ID huh? In fact, ID and religion have so much in common, it is one and the same thing :)

Well, I've been listening to creationist crap for 25 years now, and what I've noticed is that they really only have a very few arguments.

They are:

(1) "evolution is atheist!!"  That, of course, is what ALL their bitching is really about.  A subset of this argument is "evlution is evil !!!"  Hence, we have creationists blaiming evolution for Hitler, for Columbine, and anything else evil in the world (including Carol Clouser, who thinks evolution is evil because it makes hyaenas eat the poor zebras).  But alas for them, the creationists can't make this "morals" argument in court.  So we get:

(2) "creationism is TOO science !!!!"  The ID/creationist favorite for years.  Of course, I've asked several hundred creationist/IDers over the years what their, uh, scientific theory is.  And the only answers I ever get are (a) "Jesus saves!!!!" or (b) "I don't have to tell you".  Alas for them, though, this argument fell on its face in court, repeatedly.  So now we move on to:

(3) "evolution can't explain X, Y or Z !!!"  Now we get to hear all about the bombardier beetle, the woodpecker, butterfly metamorphosis, black and white moths, all rolled into ID's current favorite, "teach the controversy".  Classic God of the Gaps.

IDers simply have nothing new to say.  Every argument they've made, every single solitary one of them, was already made decades ago by the creation "scientists".  And lost.

ohhh, controversial!

Anyway, an Id'iot of a church minister is claiming in my local paper letters page that Newton and all th emembers of the Royal Society were creationists.  Classic appeal to authority, I'm away to compose a letter asking why tens of thousands of scientists across all the major religions and denominations agree that evolution is correct, and, what evidence did Newton have to creationism?  And how did he find Newtonian physics in the bible?

It is true that creos make the Evolution = Atheism = Evil assumption.

But, IMHO, the real reason evolution is being targeted by them is that it simply implies that a literal Bible is not always right. If the Bible is wrong on one thing, it can be wrong on many things or it could even be wrong on all things. The thought of this is too much for creos to even consider, thus they attack any science that could be a problem for them. In the same way, they see "theistic evolutionists" as simply blinded by the evil world (atheists).

Don't forget to mention that Newton died over 80 years before Charles Darwin was born and over 130 years before he published "Original of Species"

Creationists blame evolution for Carol Clouser?!  She'll be impressed.

No, there's nothing recent in that -- the creationists made the very same argument, in court, back in 1981, and again, in 1994.

Both times, their argument was laughed out of court.

I don't know about you guys but I found the writer's use of logical arguments without appealing to emotion thoroughly convincing. That and I didn't realize the Nazis were darwinists. I'm going to go get saved, you guys can have fun in your expanding universe where nothing matters.

I'm sorry, could you run that past me again? I couldn't hear you, I was kind of busy torching this nice Christian church.

They all also accepted the "four humours" theory of disease, too.  (shrug)

Yes, the basic problem facing the fundies is that, despite all their loud public pious proclamations, they don't really worship a God at all --- they worship a Book About God, and are too stupid to tell the difference.  (shrug)

Excuse me, who are the ones who deny global warming (amongst other things): darwinists or creationists?

Give me a f*cking break.

(Unless plasmasnake was parodying?)
