Why why why steve carell? WHY?

Luckily it's getting HORRIBLE reviews, even from the God Botherers.

Y'know, I have to confess that I enjoyed the first one.

'course anything that involves Jim Carey and Jennifer Aniston's boobs can't be all bad, right?

Without even reading the reviews, and having only seen a few trailers for this one, I have exactly zero desire to bother with it.

The most expensive "comedy" ever made. 180+ Million.

I've heard its on the top lists for churches and christian youth groups lists for showings. I'll have to find links to confirm this.

Yeah, I certainly expect more from a Daily Show Alum.

He's got a long way to go to get even with "that other Stephen's" truthiness, and Wikipedia elephant entries...

Carrel could have been a contender...

Maybe he just needs a new agent.

So did I. Which was surprising as I had grown tired of Jim C. Movies.

Oooh, he ALMOST had it!

Well no, he didn't.

Unless I'm being completely insane here, I'm thinking this is less be threatened, and more thinking it looks like it sucks.

Threatened by a movie? That was the one where the math teacher shows the lady how to read a ruler?

My wife ran straight home and said "You told me this was 12 inches.!!"

I had an out though. She was using the yardstick.

I never saw Bruce Almighty, only the commercials.

Anyway, what always struck me about the premise is that when Bruce is given the power of god, he does stupid petty shit with it. If you were given the power of god, would you even bother with crap like that?

ugh, speaking of movies based on premises thinly stretched, I just started watching "The Last Mimzy".

*sigh* yet another classic old sci-fi tale given vanilla flavoring and extra woo on top by idiotic screenwriters unable to do anything original themselves.  The "science" part of the fiction was definetly lost in the horrid tales of pollution and DNA told by the putative elementary school "science" teacher.

very disappointing.

The shamelessly juvenile, pseudo-religious, mock-sincere Evan Almighty is the most expensive Hollywood comedy ever made. Problem? It's not that funny.

Skeptic. Not threated, just wondering why (other than the obvious reason $$$$$) Carell did this project that was obviously going to suck.

The 40 year old vrigin was hilarious and his work on the Daily Show and the Office is as well.

Try again .

Like, as Bruce did, making my girlfriend's boobs bigger?

Yes...yes I probably would do that.

The whole premise of the movie seems rather bizarre: a light-hearted romp through God's wrath.  I'd love to see a comedy about Judges, Deuteronomy, or the book of Job. (Although the Brick Testament did that somewhat already).

There's a couple of good discussions on Slate already about this, but I think the book sums it up the best:

Quote
Genesis 6:7:
Yahweh said, 'I shall destroy humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth -- humankind, as well as animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them.'

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That "how many fingers am I holding up" skit in "Bruce" was pretty funny.

"How many fingers now?"

"Seven."

"Wrong! AAAHHHHHHHH!" (as he puts out his hands and now has seven fingers on the hand with fingers extented.)

I would probably shrink some man's manboobs (not naming names, but it's certainly no one here...) ;)

And inject the excess material between his ears (not naming names, but...) so he can have something to think about. :)

See, that shows my emotional depth.

It would be fun to hit Salvador with the sudden inability to lie, as in Liar Liar.

Well... you can highlight the SPOILER text below to see what actually happens at the end.  Mind you I haven't actually seen the film, but I did find out about the ending:

At the end of the film, a poorly-constructed dam breaks and floods the neighborhood.  But at this point all of the people are on the ark, so nobody dies.  They ride out the "local flood" and everyone survives.
