So at about 4 am this morning, ERV was deleted.

Not by me.

LOL!

Um, so, like, if any of you are familiar with Google/Bloggers Denyse O'Leary-like web of links for 'help' and knows a shortcut for contacting Google directly, Id be most obliged.

Thanks for posting this, Abbie. I was just asking around about you, as I had noticed that your blog had disappeared. Very strange.

Let's hope that Blogger can restore it without any loss of information. Anyway, I'm just glad that you are alright as I did worry just a little.  :(

Yes, thanks for posting.  This is the first place I looked, next was going to be Science Blogs, thinking you would be a great addition to their honor roll of bloggers.

Could it be that some The Expelled producers have answered their scientific question of WWJD? with an answer of "We Must Break ERV's Blog?

Could it be just a random Creo (William Wallace)?

Good luck with whatever!

Let us know when you are up again, and let me know if I can help in anyway.

Yahoo has some of your site cached.

Don't know how long it's going to last, though.

WooHoo! All praise Yahoo!!

If you search for (for instance) "ERV March" it will give you the link to the March 2007 and March 2008 pages of your blog. The link wont work, but if you click on "Cached" instead, it will show you the page. Should work for other months.

It'll take a while to save it all, but at least it's there (for now!)

I'm not doing anything at the moment, so I'll save as much as I can, upload it to SendSpace, and PM you the link.

I have found a cache of your blog: Here.

I used Yahoo. If you want to save any posts, etc, you could try that. I'm rubbish with computers, so I don't know if it is any help or not? :)

My bet is that it's some sort of giant (and hopefully temporary) technical screwup.

Silver Lining:

I'm betting Dembski's bottle of single-malt that ERV will be a top 3 blog for viewership at SciBlogs within 6 months.

( Hope somebody cached all ERV's booby posts though...)

I can't speak for Abbie, but if you have all of ERV's posts, I think Abbie will get you in for free the next time she takes on Behe, Dembski or one of their D.I Fellows or ID-Friendly minions.

That sounds like a portrait-oriented banner instead of the long landscape style used on scienceblogs.

Wes is right.

I think we need Abbie as Science Dominatrix with a long whip, on the left side of the banner, with Behe and Dembski groveling and crying on the right side of the banner.

I am sure that this is exactly what Wes was referring to.

Right Wes?

Blogspot ERV is back thanks to Mark at 'Good Math, Bad Math'.

And I mean thanks to Mark.

My blog got flagged as 'spam' and Google just deleted it.

(I vented to poor Mark) Im like, when the hell were they planning on telling *me* that?  Its BLOGGER.  Run by GOOGLE.  Who also runs GMAIL.  Like my GMAIL account I used to register at BLOGGER.  Why the hell couldnt they email my bluesky account and be like 'Dude, you a bot?'  Or maybe even click on my goddamn blog and be like 'Oh! This isnt spam.  She posts and has active commenters.'

WTF.

Thank you thank you thank you Mark, but so long and thanks for all the fish, Blogger.

This is a quickie.  It's liquid crystal DNA http://www.microscopy.fsu.edu/micro/gallery/dna/dna.html
Which comes as a surprise to me, I didn't know it formed liquid crystals.  For digital watches that can evolve and really screw up Paley's arguments perhaps?

But it's beautiful & colourful

If anyone can point to something more appropriate, like Japanese schoolgirls holding DNA sculptures, then I'll have a go.

I did a little reading up on this when I found that the blog had not just been delisted by Google but deleted.

I don't understand enough about the workings of blogs, which annoys me because they're supposed to be simple.  But I did a little Googling and found a story from someone else who had a blog that was delisted by Google.  He found out that something had been done to it and it was SOMEHOW linking to some sort of pop up ad link farm page.  The point is this guy didn't do this and didn't even know it had been done until he looked at something about the blog's incoming or outgoing links.  The issue did not appear to be obvious.  The story said something about a fake del.icio.us page, but I have no idea what that even is.  I like to consider myself Internet savvy, but I have made absolutely no point to keep up with all the social networking stuff.  I really don't see the point of most of it, blogs are about the only element of it all that made sense to me.

I'm guessing that the same thing may have happened to ERV.  While it's possible that this could have been done by one of the many enemies of ERV, I'm sure there's at least one script kiddie out there who styles himself a hacker for Jesus, I'm thinking it's more likely that someone saw her blog as being high profile and decided to try to exploit it for cash.

Nonetheless that's a rather ham fisted way for Google to try to clean house.  If this is an exploit being used to promote pop up ad farms and Google is intentionally tracking it down then they should know that it's not the blog author's fault.  Even if it was, yes, a warning via email just might have been appropriate.

WordPresss had a bug that allowed hackers to insert links into blogs without the knowledge of bloggers. The patch for this just came out a couple months ago, and not every blog installs every update.

This insertion of links was done by bots, and many thousands of blogs were corrupted. Delisting was their first clue.

Here's a blogger feature, and potential problem, that you may or may not be aware of.

You can make posts to your blog via email, without logging into blogger at all. To do this, you send mail to an address based on your blogger login name and the name of your blog. The format is:

loginName.blogName@blogger.com

For instance, if your blogger login name was "erv" and your blog name was endogenousretrovirus, you could post by sending mail to:

erv.endogenousretrovirus@blogger.com

The only security is that your blogger login name isn't something obvious.. like erv :)

I actually make all my blog posts this way so I a) can use my normal e-mail editor and b) so I have a record of all my blog entries in my mail's 'sent' folder... just in case.

Once, as I was typing in those stupid security letters and hitting "publish" for the umpteenth time for the same post, I received a message that my blog was a "spam blog." I can't remember what I did then, but eventually the message disappeared and my post published. (I think I removed a few cuss words.) :)

Blogger blows goats! I'd love to take my blog somewhere else, when I get some time.

Kristine, - So, ... If some ID Fanatic tries to blow up Amused Muse,  does Quidam get to put you into the Dominatrix outfit and show you beating up Dembski and Behe too?

Once, as I was typing in those stupid security letters and hitting "publish" for the umpteenth time for the same post, I received a message that my blog was a "spam blog." I can't remember what I did then, but eventually the message disappeared and my post published. (I think I removed a few cuss words.) :)

Blogger blows goats! I'd love to take my blog somewhere else, when I get some time.

May I just add that the picture of ERV is a stock photo, unphotoshopped. The Behe bit is clearly photoshopped though, Tarden tells me for a start he has pierced nipples in real life...

Stock? Nothing stock there.  I flew down for a custom photo shoot.  I told Behe I was shooting for documentary called Crossbones, about how the intersection between the decline in Pirates and the rise in the ID movement and while he was happy to wear the Jack Sparrow hat, when I produced the leather pants and leash he mumbled something about being led and beaten once before and he wasn't going to get caught again.

Don't you think Kristine is too cuddly cute to be a dominatrix?

Shifting over to Wordpress is really easy - you can transfer all your posts too.  I did it, but then got an offer I couldn't refuse, and moved to Nature Network instead.

I run Wordpress for my personal weblog, but I run my own copy on my own server.

I don't know that there's a good solution for someone looking for a mass blogging site free/cheap hosting scenario. Pretty much all of those will provide some administration that is likely to stomp on the blogger from time to time.

And me as well, and I didn't even write no damned porno or nuthin'!

Actually there are quite a few people out there unhappy with the arbitrary administration of the WordPress staff, and a little Google will do ya'.

That said, it's good software (less so since the interface overhaul) and Wesley's setup (use the software, not the hosting) is what I would recommend to anyone with the wherewithal to do it.  He's right about the admin.  Were I more serious about my blogging, I'd go Wesley's route.

I think proper terminology is in order here, or these posts will wind up on the Bathroom Wall:  Pasties for The Ta-Tas, Spinners For The Watermelons, something sciencey-sounding like that.

Oh, go on. Mock me! So Professor Steve Steve blabbed to Quidam about that hip-panda-chick costume fantasy he whispered to me while we walked around the Darwin exhibition, and after he swore he’d never tell, never tell!

Men! :D Remind me, J-Dog. Didn’t we have a smashing good time? ;)

If I get really hungry, can I eat the bamboo shoot? :)

YES I had a smashing good time, and I hope it was good for you too.  Bringing up the "bamboo shoot" is just cold though.
If you recall, I did warn you that it was early in the season, and that's why it was so small.

Blogger just emailed to apologize.

It was a nice little note, and he wanted to assure me that it was an algorithm that deleted me, not a human.

I gave him a few suggestions for how to help bloggers.

We are cool now.

Hey, don't blame me.  ERV is the only evolander who, while often stumped into silence, at least lets me continue to post.  I think ERV will come around some day (but then she will be Expelled, like the guy in the Age of the Machine video).  I wouldn't censor her, unlike others in the PT-mafia attempt to do to me.

In fact, I think ERV would make a great Public Information Project Director at the NCSE, if she could tone down her anti-Christian vitriol.

Can you export from blogger and import to Science blogs, then delete your blog?

The rules of SciBlogs say I cannot.  They want first dibs on our posts, and if they cant, then we can only cross post (say I write something for WIRED, or a megacomment here, or an old post at ERV) a few times a week.

And, I have a lot of major links to the ERV blog, not to the new SciBlog, so I wont ever delete it.  ERV blog still gets lots of hits on Dembskis theft post, 'Hello Michael Behe', and others.  Dont want to break their links.

Hi William. You can post here too...
